Physical and Mental fitness is essential for everyone. We should play outdoor games regularly. The games like cricket, hockey, football improves our physical health Hockey is Pakistan's National Game. The game of field hockey was originally brought by British Raj. Our team has been the World champion of Hockey in 1928 and has been won 6 Gold medals. Pakistan played hockey with different countries. It is game played all over the country. The word hockey is derived from word hoquet ( a french word). This Game is now played all over the world. It is a fast game playing between two teams against each other. Each team has 11 players. Each team has an aim to hit the ball in another team's goal and gain scores.

There are different variations of Hockey but the most popular is:

  • Ice Hockey
  • Street Hockey
  • Field Hockey
These three variation of Hockey is now very famous all around the world and different countries are also play hockey,especially ice hockey.
Ice Hockey:

Ice hockey is like a fun game played on a big ice skating rink. Two teams skate around trying to score goals using a small, flat thing called a puck. Players wear special gear to stay safe, like helmets and pads. Each player has a job, like the goalie who stops goals or the ones who try to score. There are rules about where players can go on the ice, and if they break the rules, they might have to sit out for a bit. But mostly, it's just about gliding on the ice and trying to get that puck into the net!


The Basic things to know while playing Hockey:

1. Equipment: Safety and Playing Gear

Safety Items:

Mouth guards, shin pads, helmets, gloves, and elbow pads are essential for protection.

Ensure your gear fits properly for maximum safety and comfort.

Playing Items:

Puck: The small, flat disc used in the game.

Hockey Sticks: Each player wields a stick to handle the puck.

Skates: Well-fitted ice hockey skates are crucial for mobility and enjoyment.

2. Player Positions

Goaltender:

The specialized position responsible for stopping shots on goal.

Goalies wear unique gear and undergo specific training.

Defenseman:

Protects the goaltender and prevents opposing forwards from scoring.

Known for skating backward and taking powerful slap shots.

Wings:

Two forwards who patrol the right and left sides of the ice.

Their primary role is to score goals or assist teammates.

Center:

Responsible for the middle of the ice.

Takes face-offs to initiate plays.

Balances defensive and offensive responsibilities.

  

3. The Game and Rules

Ice hockey is played on a rink with specific markings and lines.

Each game consists of three 20-minute periods, with 15-minute breaks in between.

Teams switch sides after each period.

Overtime (3-on-3 scenario) and shootouts occur if the score is tied at the end of regulation.

4. Key Rules

Offside:

Crossing the offensive blue line before the puck results in a whistle and a faceoff in the neutral zone.

Icing:

Shooting the puck down the ice from behind the center red line to the opponent’s goal line.

Results in a faceoff in the defensive zone.

Penalties:

Physical contact is allowed but regulated.

Fisticuffs lead to a 5-minute penalty for both parties.

Other penalties include tripping, cross-checking, and hooking.

5. The Rink

Divided into three sections by two blue lines: defensive zone, neutral zone, and offensive zone.

Players can play behind the goals but not in the blue half circle (crease).

Ice hockey is about passion, teamwork, and the thrill of the game. 

Street Hockey:

Street Hockey is also know as Dek Hockey. It is a collection of team sport variants played outdoors either on food or with wheeled skates.

Field Hockey:

Field hockey is also known as Hockey.It it's played between two opposite teams of 11 players each, who use sticks curved at the striking end to hit a small hard ball into their opponent goal.


Hockey is one of the oldest team sports in the world dating back nearly 3000 years to the Greek classical era.

Things to keep in mind while playing Hockey:

Safety first: maintain control and avoid risks. Defensive players, steer clear of clearing the puck in front of your own goal; instead, opt for safer plays to the side. Offensive strategy: position players upfront, ready to seize the opportunity for a precision pass.
